Seems mysterious indeed!

A series of opening WTF moments quickly turned into a really fun and surprisingly inventive experience.  I am usually a skeptic of new SOM made games, often thinking to myself 'what else is there to do with this engine that could possibly be worth me playing it?'  Well the answer is REgret, in a nutshell, a game like I've never really played before using the SOM tool.

The game is, at bare minimum, an extremely abstract take on the world of the original King's Field, yet within its rather short script, npc interactions and delivery of the lore, it all actually fits within the canon of the original universe.  Well done to Verdite Cat for doing the research and having the knowledge to make this story make sense in the land of King's Field.

Worth a playthrough (or two hint hint) for anyone that enjoys a little brain teaser and an adventure in to the mind of a medieval warrior on LSD.

I honestly hope you continue to develop this game or others similar to it, i will play them all happily.

Thanks!

Glad this is on here and you can aim for commercial use aswell or at least take donations. Time is money and money is time. Especially after your efforts with the new models etc. What are these new textures you found? I saw a bit  on the discord. Is it a full game you are making is it complete?

Hi Hodslate!  Thanks for the comment!  I'll consider opening up donations if I feel like it's in a finished state.

These new assets are old SoM files by Ainsuph that we recovered from an archive of his website.   They're free to use, and I'll pin the download so it's easier to find.  Feel free to ping me if you need any help.

I'm about to release an update and after that I will consider Part 1 to be complete.  Part 2 I think will take considerably longer to develop and will feature more combat and a less linear progression.   I also plan to spend more time playing through other SoM games by the community.  I want to see what this engine can do!

There is quite a bit the engine can do. If only Moratheia was finished. It is a true showcase of what can be achieved with it. Crisp textures and environments, more complex models etc.  Be cool if somebody went to that extent again. I tried to import my own models but had issues came close but not quite.

I've got a game SoM on the burner at the moment. Just pressed for time to really sink into it currently.

I've looked at the fan games they are really good. I've only completed mystic prelude though.

Unless new version of Moratheia appears (and i think it would be using som ex and not original som), I just consider latest available one (2.1) being final so far (and its already super impressive, isnt it).

Yes I loved that game. I played version 2.1 aswell. Some awesome dungeon crawling in the Meera crypt and tunnels early on. I never finished it I encountered some bug where an NPC called Gnald didn't spawn where I needed to progress the story. Loads of work gone into that game true credit to the developer. I wish he would finish that game off I've been in correspondence with him regards to reviving Moratheia and sadly he stopped replying to me. Almost 12 months ago.

How he made all those custom map tiles line up and added unique movements for unique enemies is beyond me. All textures are nice quality too. Sword of moonlight engine could produce something very viable today with minimal coding if some dedicated developers got on board as a group. Could create a huge unique fantasy game. Moratheia showcases what can be achieved.
